How can a former clinic be transformed into a contemporary spa that radiates calm, warmth, and natural refinement? It begins with a building of architectural significance from the 1980s — originally designed as a clinic, now part of a hotel complex. Over time, the spa evolved through isolated renovations, resulting in a fragmented atmosphere. The task was to reinterpret these layers and create a cohesive design language that expresses the calm sophistication of a high-end wellness retreat. Through subtle interventions in interior architecture, material, and light, the project restores spatial unity and defines a clear, tranquil identity for guests.

creating coherence in space, material, and light

What happens when existing spatial structures are reimagined to redefine flow and atmosphere while maintaining architectural integrity? The concept emphasizes clarity, balance, and soft transitions between zones of activity and rest. Circulation and sightlines were reorganized to strengthen orientation and spatial rhythm. Natural materials such as travertine and warm woods anchor the rooms, while muted tones and filtered light create intimacy. Textiles play a connecting role, softening acoustics and defining thresholds — transforming the former fragmentation into a fluid, cohesive experience while keeping as much of the original materials as possible.

Which materials, colours, and textures can convey a new sense of calm while uniting history and contemporary identity? The design builds on an authentic palette of tactile materials — stone, wood, and woven fabrics in gentle, earthy hues. Their interplay produces a natural elegance that reflects both the spa’s atmosphere and its brand identity. Custom furniture, refined lighting, and soft textile layers lend warmth without excess, allowing material honesty and emotional comfort to merge into a single, harmonious experience.
